Over 250 outstanding young men come to Boys State each year to learn about government in a fun, interactive format. Boys State has been in existence in Michigan for almost 80 years, and thousands of young men have completed the program and had their lives positively impacted. Many are motivated by their experience at Boys State to go on to careers in public service. We encourage you to browse through this website to see some of the activities that students experience at Boys State.
Anyone can sponsor a young man to Boys State. It can be done by contacting your local American Legion Post, or you can contact the Department's HQ at (517)371-4720 x 23 (Roxanne Osga). We highly encourage individuals and civic-minded organizations alike to sponsor young men to Boys State. The cost is $325, but partial scholarships are accepted and encouraged. You can contact us also if you want to get involved with the program on a volunteer basis.
We have some resource materials available for download!
Each year we have more delegates who would like to register than sponsors. If you are a sponsor who can't find a delegate to fund, please contact us and we can match you up. We also take cash donations toward our program.
Financial contributions to the Boys State fund will be used to offset the “underwriting” costs of the American Legion as it continues to bring this “hand-on” five-day experience in American democratic methods to Michigan’s high school students who will eventually be franchised voters and/or well-versed public office candidates. Contributions to this fund will help insure the Michigan American Legion’s ability to continue offering this program to the state’s young men at an affordable rate, just as it has since 1936.
